Update 2023 for Surebond SB-4000 Sealer Review
If you have any questions or have used the Surebond SB-4000 Sealer product, please ask below in our Q&A area. We are here to help!
SB-4000 Water Repelling Invisible Sealer is a water-based, penetrating, low VOC sealer that provides an invisible, durable barrier against liquid absorption on retaining walls, concrete, and pavers. The finish has a natural look that does not affect the appearance of the substrate.
Concrete Sealer Ingredients: Blend of Siloxanes
Concrete Sealer Type: Penetrating Clear Sealer
SB-4000 Concrete Sealer Scores (1-10)
Ease of Application: 10
– The SB-4000 is very easy to apply and dries within an hour. We used a Chapin concrete sealer sprayer and applied 5 gallons of the sealer to 750 sq. feet in under 20 minutes.
Water Repellency: 9
– Surebond SB-4000 has excellent water repellency for the brick blocks. Water beaded up and there was very little penetration, even with a heavy flow of water on the surface.
Cost per foot: 7
– The Surebond SB-400 is one of the more expensive sealers on the market. They do offer very good results, though. Out cost was about $.25 a sq.foot to apply, almost double of other brands.
Durability/Spalling After 2 Years: 8
– After 2 years the Surebond 4000 still beaded up water and there was not visible hairline cracks or pitting on the blocks. Conditions were virtually the same but with a small amount of mold and green algae.
Warranty: 6
– The manufacturer is very vague on the warranty with no actual dates.
Overall Score SB-4000 Concrete Sealer: 8
– The SB-400 would have rated higher if it was not for the warranty. We like concrete sealer warranties that protect for 5, 6, or more years. Besides the warranty, the SB-4000 is an excellent and capable concrete sealer and water repellent.
*Application is great, works well and repels water, but the warranty is vague.

Used SB4000 on brick walk. It was very thin in consistency. Can two coats be put on? Can you use another sealer like Thompsons on top of it?
You cannot apply another sealer on top. It is desgend to be thin and react internally. No need to add more.
Thanks
I am debating on what to use on my driveway that has different colors due to repairs (it looks like previous owners had some parts of the driveway repaired and the color of the driveway is different in places). Also i have pitted areas and black spots that I cannot remove with a driveway cleaner and a pressure washer. Which product would you recommend that is affordable and would prevent the "green mold" and brownish stains from re-appearing on my driveway (part that stays mostly in the shade during the day).
Thank you for your help 🙂
Sprayed on my pavers and they turned chalky white. The pavers were clean and had dried for 48 hours before application. Very dissatisfied! Is there any way I can get this sealer off?
This product is not a paver sealer. Are you sure this is the one you used? Turning white is the result of reaction as well and is not related to just the sealer.
Please explain but what you mean by "This product is not a paver sealer." i thought SB-4000 is marketed for sealing pavers. thanks
It can be used on pavers for sealing but it does not enhance the appearance or help with the joint sand. It will not change the appearance of the pavers but will seal them.
Do you mean erosion?
Hi – Does this product help solidify the sand between the pavers? Thanks
Tom, it does not do that.
