Brick pavers are an excellent choice for many landscape designs. They are versatile and come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. A new color paver design may be exactly what your property needs for increased curb appeal. But over time, the paver color starts to fade, and its appeal is inevitably lost. Restoring them will bring back color to the pavers.

Restoring Color to Brick Pavers

Knowing how to restore color to pavers can increase their longevity and beauty. The first order of business is to wash the pavers using a brick paver or concrete cleaner. Use the cleaner as directed, and for the best results, use a pressure washer to rid the pavers of contaminants like dirt, grime, mold, and mildew. Clean up the pavers and rinse them well. Then, allow them to dry for a day or two.

In this updated article, we tell you the best way to add a non-slip component to paver sealers to make your surfaces safe. If you have any suggestions for the best way to add a non-slip additive to paver sealers or have any questions, please comment below.

Some paver sealers can create a “slippery when wet” scenario. This is more evident with the high gloss or wet look type of paver sealers. You can create more traction to a sealer by adding a non-slip additive to the paver sealer before it is applied. The non-slip additive is mixed into the sealer prior to the application.

Non-slip additives like Super Grip will only work with sealers that leave a film on the paver surface to enhance the appearance. It works best when it is mixed in and applied with the second coat. It will not work with a single coat on surfaces that have not been previously sealed. Non-slip additives will not work with sealers that penetrate into the paver surface and do not alter the appearance.

Acrylic Based Sealers for Concrete and Paver Bricks

The acrylic-based sealers are known as the “enhancing” sealers. They typically add a gloss or shiny look to the substrate’s surface similar to a “wet look”. These types of sealers can be either water or solvent-based, with the water-based being lower VOC.

Acrylic sealers form a protective film atop the surface to create a barrier against water and stain absorption. They protect against freeze/thaw damage, salts and de-icing chemicals, staining, hot tire marks, and color fading. They make concrete and paver surfaces washable and easier to maintain.

Concrete Sealers are used to protect and enhance all types of Interior and Exterior concrete surfaces. They can provide water repellency for driveways and brick walls or enhancement for decorative concrete surfaces such as Stamped Patios or Pavers.

In this article, we will look at the many different types of Concrete Sealers, Coatings, and Water Repellents.

Concrete Sealers and Water Repellents

Concrete sealants and water repellents are the most popular of concrete coatings. These sealers are designed to penetrate deep into the surface without filming on top. They typically do not change the appearance of the surface. These sealers are composed mainly of different types of silicones. Silane, siloxane, and silox are the most common forms used. These particles penetrate deep into the concrete, reacting with the alkali. This creates an internal bond that seals out water, dirt, grime, and common spills. These sealers work exceptionally well and do come in different solids amounts ranging from 8-24%. Higher solids are typically for a very porous block while lower solids are for smoother concrete surfaces.

Available in both water-based and solvent-based formulas.

Pros: Very easy to apply. Typically lasts 4-6 years for most applications.
